Rail Aspects Limited: Our Experience
Rail Aspects Limited is founded on the experience of Managing Director, Steve Brown.
Steve has extensive experience of all aspects of railway operations, systems engineering and the implementation of technology within the rail sector.
We work with a huge range of clients and at all levels of our clients’ organisations, from directors and senior managers to subject matter experts.
Rail Aspects’ MD, Steve Brown, has undertaken and managed a huge range of projects based on the use of railway network simulation and modelling to assess the impact of timetable and infrastructure scheme. He has managed projects within high-profile schemes such as the Reading Station Area Remodelling, Paisley Corridor upgrade, European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), High Speed 2 (HS2) and numerous service enhancement and new station proposals. Steve has worked with Network Rail, Train Operating Companies and the Department for Transport using a range of simulation tools to evaluate options for the schemes and to refine the chosen options.
Rail Aspects Limited specialises in performance data analysis, performance improvement and performance regimes. Working with Train Operating Companies and other stakeholders, we use statistical analytical techniques to assess the likely impact of a variety of factors (fleet and infrastructure reliability, timetable and resource plan, signalling and capacity) on overall network performance. This allows our clients to understand the impact on overall train performance and adopt appropriate reporting and management techniques. We have undertaken a variety of projects related to performance regimes, from understanding the impact of changes in metrics to setting up and calibrating and adjusting new and existing regimes.
Rail Aspects Limited has extensive experience of specifying, procuring and implementing technology solutions, especially those relating to software for rail operations planning and management. Rail Aspects works with either suppliers or purchasers of such technology. We have helped to assess the most appropriate technology for new implementation and upgrades to software systems. We can develop appropriate metrics for assessing technologies and suppliers, conduct supplier interviews and shortlisting. We can also work with the selected provider to successfully implement the chosen solution.
Rail Aspects Limted has many years’ experience in business development and tender writing. We have particular skills in writing bids and tenders for complex opportunities such as rail franchises and concessions, where the ability to create a narrative and support it with evidence forms a key part of the communication of bidders’ proposals. We also have experience of technical proposals for both consultancy and software projects, including high-value opportunities, and can support this with wider business development following a “solution selling” model.
Rail Aspects Limited also has extensive experience of general rail projects. We specialise in those relating to service enhancements, new station or freight terminal schemes and also offer general problem solving for train operators and infrastructure owners. We have assisted other consultancies, port operators, housing developers and engineering companies with a huge range of projects.
